Using X-windows

To use X-windows, you must be logged in at an Explora. Various default options are contained in the file .Xdefaults in your home directory. The programs that are automatically started are listed in your file .xsession. You may want to customize these files to your preferences.

Some useful programs that run under X-windows are:

acroread -- Displays Adobe Acrobat documents.
ghostview -- Displays PostScript documents.
xbiff -- Mailbox flag for X
xcalc -- Hand calculator
xclipboard -- X clipboard client
xclock -- Continuously displays the current time of day.
xdvi -- DVI Previewer for the X Window System
xlpq -- Show/manage print jobs from an X window
xrdb -- Sets X defaults from resource database.
xpdf == Displays Adobe Acrobat documents (faster than acroread).
xsetroot -- Set root window parameters.
xterm -- Initializes an X-Windows terminal emulator.
xwd -- Dumps the image of an X-Window.

Other interesting X-related programs can be found by listing the X directories /usr/bin/X11.
