CISC 1400: Homework
Here is a list of homework. Since I won't know in advance how
much material we'll cover on a given day, I generally determine the
homework assignments after each class session is
completed.
For a multi-part problem: If I don't specify parts, then do
all parts of the problem. If I do specify parts (e.g.,
1.6.1ade), only do the parts indicated.
The dates given are the dates the the homework was
assigned. Unless told otherwise, all homework is due at
the next class session.
- Tue 28 May: pg. 34ff.: 1.6.1, 1.6.2
- Wed 29 May: pg. 34ff.: 1.6.4ae, 1.6.5eh,
1.6.6c, 1.6.10, 1.6.14, 1.6.16acf, 1.6.19ace
- Thu 30 May:
- pg. 72ff: 2.5.1bde, 2.5.3bf, 2.5.5ac, 2.5.7

of website project.

3.3.12, 3.3.13ac, 3.3.14, 3.3.17
Guidelines and hints:
- In Problem 3.3.6: Treat "or" as the inclusive or, rather
than the exclusive or. Treat "evil" as meaning "not
good".
- In Problem 3.3.17, let d, o, p, and
w respectively denote the status of being a duck,
being an officer, being poultry, and being willing to
waltz.
- Finish Part 1 of
website project.
- Tue 4 June:
- pg. 145ff.: 4.4.1, 4.4.2, 4.4.3ac, 4.4.5a, 4.4.9b, 4.4.10b,
4.4.11ab, 4.4.13c
Note that for 4.4.3 and 4.4.5, you're being asked to write out an
infinite relation as a set of ordered pairs; for these
problems, you should write down enough pairs to show me that you
understand the general idea of what's going on. You may need
to use multiple ellipses when giving the answer to these
problems.
- Start Part 2 of
website project.
- Wed 5 June:
- I am providing you with a
practice midterm exam,
which you should print out. After you answer all the
questions on the practice exam, compare your answers with
my solutions.

Note that you are to do all of Problem 7.7.14, but in the
specified order. That's because the answer to part d can
be used to find the to part a, and so forth.

the Chapter 7 homework is due tomorrow. Also, you should be
